The cheapest monthly car in South Africa (2026)

Updated 2 November 2026 · 5 min read

Short answer

The cheapest monthly car is the one with the lowest all-in cost: payment plus insurance, tracker, service and licence, with no balloon at the end. YeboAuto's cheapest all-in car is the Suzuki Swift 1.2 at R1,795 a week (about R7,780 a month). Our cheapest vehicle overall is the Hero Eco 150 delivery bike at about R3,030 a month.

Compare the all-in price, not the advert

A low monthly figure in an advert often leaves costs out. Before you compare two cars, check whether the price includes:

  • Comprehensive insurance
  • A tracker
  • Services and maintenance
  • Licence and registration
  • Any start-up or admin fee
  • A balloon or residual payment at the end

A car that looks cheap per month can cost more in total if insurance is extra or there is a large balloon payment at the end. Add everything up to get the all-in monthly cost, then multiply by the term and add any end payment to get the full price.

YeboAuto monthly prices, all-in

Every price below includes insurance, tracker, service plan and licence. Monthly is the weekly amount × 52 ÷ 12, rounded.

Vehicle Weekly About per month Term Best for
Hero Eco 150 (bike) R699 R3,030 18 months Deliveries
Honda Ace 125 (bike) R749 R3,250 18 months Deliveries

Suzuki Ertiga 1.5 (2026) R3,650 R15,820 36 months UberXL and Bolt XL

At the end of the term you can buy a car for a fixed R5,000 or a bike for R500. There is no balloon.

Cheapest per month vs cheapest overall

A longer term lowers the monthly amount but raises the total you pay. For example, the Swift costs R1,795 a week over 48 months, or less per week over 60 months, but more in total. Each car page shows every term side by side, so pick the one that fits your budget with the lowest total you can manage. See the Suzuki Swift for an example.

If your credit record is good and you have a payslip, bank finance is usually cheaper in total. If the bank said no, rent to own is a way to get a car without new credit. Rent to own vs vehicle finance explains the trade-off.
